Neapolitan Tradition & Superstition
Discover the meaning of the
Neapolitan Cornetto
From the ancient sounds of Naples' alleys, from the scent of lemon and saltiness of the Gulf, from the dazzling light of Vesuvius mirrored in the sea, our AmoNapoli collection is born. The intense red of passion, the golden yellow of the Southern sun, and the deep blue of the Mediterranean color our creations inspired by the most magical of Italian cities.
An iconic symbol of Neapolitan tradition, the LUCKY HORN (CORNETTO) — also called corno or cornicello — has origins dating back to ancient times, long before Christianity. Its name recalls the shape of the horn of the animal sacred to the moon goddess, protector of fertility and fortune. Ancient popular beliefs narrate the cornetto as a powerful amulet against the evil eye, the malevolent gaze capable of bringing misfortune to those who receive it.
To be truly effective, according to Neapolitan tradition, the cornetto must adhere to precise rules handed down through centuries of popular folklore. Only a "right" cornetto can protect its wearer.
It must be received as a gift
Never bought for oneself — its magic comes from the affection of the giver.
Point facing downwards
It must be worn with the tip pointing down, to discharge negative energies to the ground.
Strictly red
The color of fire and blood — symbol of life, strength, and protection.
Handmade
The magic lies in the artisanal craftsmanship: each cornetto carries the energy of its creator.
« It is said that in Naples there is no house, shop, or car without at least one red cornetto: it is the silent guardian of every threshold. »
In ancient times, cornicelli were forged from red Mediterranean coral, a material considered magical and living, capable of absorbing negative energies instead of the wearer. Noble families commissioned them in gold and coral from the best goldsmiths of the Kingdom of Naples, making them precious jewels passed down from generation to generation as true family talismans.
Over time, the tradition has evolved: the cornetto has become a popular, democratic jewel, found on market stalls as well as in the most refined boutiques. Today it is given for births, weddings, graduations, and new beginnings — an ancient wish that knows neither fashion nor season.
A good luck charm, a shield against envy,
a wish for a full and fortunate life.
Wear our collection and always carry the Neapolitan Cornetto with you. Perfect for wearing and gifting, it is born from the encounter between the ancient magic of the South and a modern and refined design.
