Among the most famous popular beliefs that animate the island of Capri, there is certainly the legend of the Lucky Bell.
It is told of a little shepherd, fatherless, who owned only a little sheep given to him shortly before his father's death, and one day, while stopping to pick flowers, lost sight of it. Amid tears and despair, as he searched everywhere, he suddenly heard a distant ringing, hopeful he followed the sound and, running at night on the wet ground, unknowingly found himself at the edge of a cliff.
The legend says that at that very moment, while the boy was about to fall, he was dazzled by a light and the little shepherd saw Saint Michael on his white horse, who gave him a bell as a gift, with the promise that if in the future he followed its sound, it would protect him.
In the excitement of the beautiful meeting, the boy returned home bringing the bell to his mother, and from that moment the bell became not only the symbol of good luck but also the emblem of the island of Capri.
From this legend, over time the tradition of gifting the Capri bell to people we consider truly special has been established, so that with every chime of the lucky charm, each of their wishes may come true.
