The term Moro in Venetian refers to the pirates who, at the time of the Saracens, raided the Dalmatian coasts; it was customary, in fact, for coastal populations, especially women, to wear a gold earring with special finishes made of white and black enamel shaped like a Moro, as an amulet to ward off the arrival of pirates.
