Venetian Moor
Emblem of Venice is the Moretto , born from various cultural suggestions. The term Moro in Venetian indicates the pirates who, at the time of the Saracens, carried out raids on the Dalmatian coasts; in fact, it was customary for the populations of the coasts, especially women, to wear a gold earring with particular finishes made of black and white enamel in the shape of a Moor, as an amulet in order to exorcise the arrival of pirates.
Since then, there has been a tradition in Venice of wearing the Moretto lucky charm: no longer just an amulet to exorcise dangers but a symbol of well-being and wealth.
Mask
Venice is famous all over the world for its very special Carnival masks. The Venetian mask is a symbol of the need to abandon oneself to play, joke and the illusion of wearing someone else's shoes, thus expressing different meanings : celebration and transgression, freedom and immorality.
